Reading and Writing

Reading has been my favorite pastime for as long as I can remember.  A book that whisks me to another world and holds me spellbound ‘til the last page is my idea of pure magic. I’m honestly not sure I could survive a day without reading, and I don’t intend to try. In spite of diligent effort, my stack of unread books grows ever higher.

Writing presents more of a challenge. For many years I feared rejection so much that I wouldn’t submit my work to public scrutiny. But once I took the plunge, the reward of doing something I loved immediately outweighed the risk of failure.

I now know both acceptance and rejection well. Acceptance is fun. Rejection, though painful, is often instructional. My early publication credits came from short stories and magazine articles. Those experiences gave me the confidence to write novels—four, thus far–something I couldn’t even imagine when I submitted my first short story to a real editor.

Regardless of the genre, I tell stories that showcase the basic decency of people, stories that leave the reader feeling good about life. I hope you’ll react that way after you read what I write. Let me know.
